Skating for God

My name is Sarah. I am eight years old and was born in Lincoln, Nebraska, although I now live in Scottsdale, Arizona. When I was three years old I saw the Olympics on TV where the United States won the gold medal in gymnastics and I pretended it was me. Ever since then I have wanted to be an athlete...and I have been working hard at everything I do to be the best I can be. I started gymnastics when I was 5 years old and also started begging my mom to go ice skating. My mom did not want to take me skating because she didn't like the coldness of the rink and I suppose because it was very expensive. She told me to just do gymnastics, which I loved. But, I still always dreamed of getting on the ice. Finally, one summer day my mom gave in to me and took me to the rink. As we stepped onto the ice together I fell and pulled my mom down. She broke her elbow and from that point on said I was on my own. I was so determined that I broke away from the wall and have never stopped skating.

I have two pets, a dog named Spunky and a cat named Pepper. We saved Spunky from Death Row and she is just the best Boston Terrier any one could ever have, even though she is blind. Pepper was saved, too, and he is so funny because he talks to us with his meows. One of my goals in life is to be a veterinarian because I love animals so much. I also love my church and sing in the kid's choir. It is always so special to get in front of the church and sing for the Lord as a witness to our love of God.

Skating for God...this is who I am. Although I am only 8 years old, going on nine, I have dedicated my life to living for God. The Lord Jesus gave me life and also has given me a talent in athletics. Because He has given me so much I want to praise His name not only in spirit but in everything I do. When I go out onto the ice I thank Him for giving me the opportunity to share His life with others through a witness on the ice. When I land a jump I thank Him...it is because of Him that I am able to skate the way I do. All the glory goes to Him. I may never be an Olympian but I will always skate for Him. I know there will be tough days ahead of me and yet I know He is with me always. He is my strength. I love Him and am thankful for how He takes care of me. I want to show everyone how much He means to me...both on and off the ice. I want to work hard at everything I do because He gave me this life and it is my responsibility to be all that He would have me to be.

Just recently I found out that my last name is Scottish and this has become very special to me. How did we find this info out? Well, my favorite movie and music is Braveheart. It is a love story and also a story of a man who sacrifices his life for the freedom of his country. I want to skate to this music by next year. I have made this a secret mission. Only my coaches and family know I am planning this as part of my next year's program. We will only practice it on private ice so it will be special. I have to get my double salchow down and axel perfect before I want to show it because I want it to be a special witness of my love for God. Anyway, we went to an internet site for Braveheart to look for ideas for a costume...we emailed the site and they have been corresponding with us about it. They are going to send a picture of the original wedding cloth from the music so I can get a costume made. They have been so nice and it excites me so much to be talking with them.
